A scale is always recommended equipment for a fishing trip. You might get lucky and catch some big game, so bring a scale so you can weigh your catch.

Grubs are great to help you catch bass. These types of bait will help you catch big, tasty fish as well. They're great for both smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. They work well when fishing in highland reservoirs where there is not a lot of coverage.

When bottom fishing using shad, snip the tail prior to putting it on the hook. This keeps the baited fish from spinning and winding around your fishing line as it sinks to the bottom, helping you prevent a tangled line. A beneficial side effect of this procedure is that cutting the tail causes the bait to emit a scent that causes fish to make a beeline for your bait.

When attaching a lure or hook to the line, try using an improved clinch knot. To make this knot, put your line through the end of the hook, wrap five times, and pass through the hook's eye and the first coil. To finish the knot, tightly pull the end of the line through the loop.

Look for nearby fish when going deep sea fishing. This may come in the form of debris in the water. More often than not, this is a tell tale sign that there is fish in the area. In addition to looking for debris in the water, keep an eye out for seagulls. Many times there is an abundance of fish where seagulls are feeding.
