Helpful Fishing Tips For The New Fisherman

The old expression, “A bad day of fishing is always better than a good day at work” rings true for many, many people. If spending the day on the water with your bait and tackle sounds like fun to you, read on. You may be shocked to find that simple piece of fishing advice that changes your luck for the better.

If you are fishing in a river or lake, near the shore can be an ideal spot to cast. This is because fish will find insects in these locations. So to increase your opportunities for success, try fishing along the bank. Be aware of the weeds, however!

If you want to catch fish, be sure your hooks are always sharp. If you neglect to do this, you will find that the fish are not coming around and you will inevitably go home empty handed. Have plenty of sharp hooks prepared before you begin fishing.

Keep track of the weather forecast and any changes in the weather. Planning a fishing trip only to have it rain the entire time will ruin your day. Check the weather report online so that you don't fall prey to these unfortunate circumstances.

If you can't reel in fish with your favorite lure, check the integrity of your hooks. Many people who fish do not remember that hooks that are used a lot can become blunt or twisted, which makes it difficult to catch additional fish. The best way to solve this problem is by replacing the old hooks with new ones.

It is a good idea when you go fishing to bring along a scale. You never can tell when you'll catch that rare trophy, so be sure to have a scale handy especially if you are practicing catch and release.

Take a camera with you to take pictures of fish you catch and release so people will believe you when they ask you about your fishing accomplishments. The fish will live and now you a long-lasting photo to show everyone.

Remember that larger fish require larger bait. While they are more expensive, they usually translate to better catches. The bigger the fish is, the bigger the food they're going to want to eat.

Larger Bait

If you want to catch larger fish, consider fishing with larger bait. Larger bait is more pricey, but you can get a bigger catch. Large fish are more likely to prey on larger bait because they naturally prey on larger creatures in the water.

Don't overlook the smell of your hands. If your hands have a strong smell, it might get on to the bait, and this will be detected by fish. If the fish you are trying to catch get a whiff of your scent, they will likely be more evasive.

Be mindful of the smells your hands give off. Whether through the use of lotions, perfumes or scented soaps, odors on your hands can easily transfer to your bait. The fish you are trying to catch could smell this odor, which could cause them to not bite.

Whether fishing for sport or food, the more information you have, the better. Now you have plenty of useful advice for improving your next fishing trip. Remember this advice so you can catch the big one next time you go fishing!
