Bass fishing is a good place to start for a novice. Bass are known for being easier to catch because they are likely to go for the bait and are easier to handle. Even advanced fishermen enjoy fishing for bass, as they can put up an exciting fight – making for a fun fishing experience.

When fishing, clothing and gear that blends in color-wise with the scenery is crucial. Fish don't see all that well, but they can see colors, so colors that contrast with the environment may scare them away. It is best to wear earth tones.

Live bait is the best choice for many types of fishing expeditions. Insects living near the water usually become fish food. If it is a bait that typically lives near the waters edge, the fish are more likely to bite it. There are a lot of expensive lures that do not work very well and only help the bait store, not the fisherman.

Always be cognizant about the current weather at the location where you are fishing and the forecast for the rest of the day. No one wants to find themselves in the middle of the water during a sudden thunderstorm. Checking the weather before you go can give you an edge on your fishing trip.

To make live bait more enticing for fish and easier for you to handle, flatten them before you use them. All you have to do is take a stack of worms and place them in a flat container lined with newspaper, then place the container in your fridge. Take them out of the container the following morning. They will plump up due to the cooler conditions and humidity of the refrigerator.

Try casting close to shore if your fishing trip takes you to a river or lake. You can expect to get bites in that area because the insects, which are the fishes' food source, are located there. Watch for the weeds, however!
