When wading, use extreme caution. If you must wade through water, be sure to go slowly and be extremely careful. If you make a lot of noise, you'll scare the fish because sound does travel under water. Try not disturbing the river bed and be patient.

If you are going to be an avid fisherman, then a sharp hook is a must. Test the hook by lightly scraping the tip across your fingernail. If it leaves a little scratch, it's sharp enough. If not, you will have to replace it or sharpen it to catch fish.

Determine a nice spot to catch the fish you want, then go upstream a little and cast your line. This causes your bait and hook to move past the fish. The more natural motion of the downstream drift will do a better job of attracting the fish to bite your bait. If the fish you want are beneath an obstruction, this technique can work particularly well.

Weather Conditions

Never embark upon a fishing trip without first checking the expected weather conditions. Many fishermen prefer to bring a small radio on the boat because it allows them to remain updated on developing weather conditions.

Look for areas of deep water. If you are fishing in a river, try to find the deepest area of the river. Fish will congregate in areas like these, particularly in warm weather. They also like to hang out around very large rocks and ledges. Once you find a great spot in the river, remember exactly where it is for future reference.

If you are new to fishing, the first fish you should try to catch is bass. The reason being because bass take bait more easily than other fish, and they fairly easy to find. The struggle of reeling one in makes fishing exciting for everyone.

Before you tie a knot, wet your line. Not only will this reduce the amount of friction you experience as you tie the knot, it will also make the knot as a whole much stronger. Use a knot such as the double fisherman or clinch knot.

Remember to bring along plenty of water and food when fishing, especially during the hot summer months. If you are dehydrated or malnourished, you won't be at your top form for catching fish. You should bring plenty of snacks along with the water and food you will be consuming while fishing.

Now you now that you can learn about fishing, no matter what your skill level. Fishing is not very difficult. You just need to take some time out to learn about how it's done correctly and you'll be ready to catch a fish. This is a great feeling, and fish that you have caught yourself always tastes better!

If you choose to fish in areas that are choked with weeds and reeds, you may find yourself feeling discouraged. Although the vegetation can become annoying, there are usually quite a few fish in the area because of the insect population.
